Fallen Electric Poles Worry Resident’s Along Kitgum - Lokung Road

Fallen electricity poles along Kitgum - Lokung road to Lamwo headquarters are preventing residents from accessing their gardens for fear of being electrocuted.

According to Ms Monica Apio of Padibe East who spoke to this paper on Tuesday, electricity wires have crossed her garden and she is afraid to go and weed her cotton in case she is electrified.

She added that most of the people who have their gardens near the poles have decide to abandon digging.

Meanwhile Mr Patrick Oola of Lamugu-Ngu village says that some of the wires are touching the ground level which is a health and safety risk, particularly to children.

Oola adds that they have raised the issue with the district authority but nothing been done, yet the issue posses a grave risk to residents.

The district Chairman Mr Mathew Akiya told this paper that there is no UMEME employee in the district, so they have to contact those in Kitgum to come to the rescue of residents in Lamwo.

Akiya noted that as a district authority they are going to write in protest to UMEME in Kampala if the the status quo remains after two weeks.
