East Oxford Community Centre in Oxford in the United Kingdom was aroused to the drums and dances of the Acholi Community in the historic city as they celebrated Acholi day.

Acholi day is an event organised to celebrate Acholi cultural heritage where participants are treated to traditional Acholi foods and entertained by traditional Acholi dancers.

Ms Grace Rwot-Lakica, 31, of Rose Hill, said that the event was very successful and everyone enjoyed themselves: “We had about 300 turn up from all backgrounds and it was nice to see people come together.”

“The culture here in the UK is very different from Uganda so it is difficult to get together but everything about the Acholi people is about togetherness,” she said. 

Rwot-Lakica said that there are significant numbers of people in the Acholi community in Oxford. People came to the community event from across Oxfordshire, London and beyond.
