A 28-year-old woman and her baby have been killed in a tragic fire accident in Omoro district.
Jackline Akello and her 6-month-old baby identified as Joshua Gum, all residents of Pudyek village, Acoyo parish in Koro Sub County met their death on Thursday morning at around 1am.
Akello was sleeping in a hut with her husband identified as Geoffrey Ocira, 40 years of age.
Ocira was rushed to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital for treatment with a seriously injured left leg and a palm.
Justine Odong, the Koro area LC III Chairperson said Ocira is a known local petrol dealer in the area and they suspect that the fire could have been as a result of petrol which caught fire.
Odong said Ocira trades petrol along Gulu- Moroto road and always keeps the petrol inside his house in the night.
Police is investigating the cause of the fire and circumstance under which the family died.
This is the fourth fire incident this month in the Acholi sub region, leaving nine people dead.
John Kennedy Oketta, 45, his wife, Agness Apiyo and three of their biological children died in a suspected arson early this month from Kal ‘A’ village, Koch Sub County in Nwoya. Five suspects have been charged in connection with the gruesome murder of members of the same family.
