John Baptist Odama, the Archbishop of Gulu Archdiocese has condemned the violence in Rwenzori sub region and called on parties involved to dialogue.
On Sunday, Ugandan security forces stormed the palace of King of Charles Wesley Mumbere of the Rwenzururu kingdom on grounds that it was being used as a holding ground for a separist militia. The subsequent class left over 60 people dead.
Archbishop Odama appealed to President Museveni to seek all the possible peaceful means and immediately end bloodshed in Kasese.
“The Omusinga has to talk with the government. Let them talk! That is a peaceful way. We call it dialogue. That’s what I would encourage. If I was to meet him (President) I will tell him simply, can you stop that violence,’’ said Odama while speaking to journalists in Gulu town on Tuesday.
Odama said human life is precious and it is unnecessary for anyone to choose to terminate it no matter the difference in opinion.
Bishop Odama is a renowned peace advocate in northern Uganda and Uganda. He is credited for his strong contribution in ending the two-decade long conflict in northern Uganda.
