Michael Lakony, the Amuru district Chairman has said he is receiving threats from top government and army officials following the auctioning of the over 1,000 bags of charcoals by Amuru district.
Last month Amuru local government auctioned 1,391 bags of charcoals on grounds that the charcoal dealers were engaged in the trade illegally.
Amuru in August put a ban on commercial charcoal business in the district.
Lakony told Acholi Times last week that he had been confronted on the phone and physically by a top government official who instructed him to release the impounded charcoal.
Lakony did not say which government official had confronted him.
“I have names and recorded voices of the big persons in government and the army which I will expose if they continue [to intimidate],” Lakony said.
The Amuru Chairman revealed that he had submitted the names of the government and military officials who had intimidated him to Amuru legislatures to raise before parliament.
When contacted, Major Caesar Olweny, the Public Relations Officer for the 4th Division said he had not received any information of soldiers threatening the Amuru LC5 Chair.
The PRO also asked the local LC5 Chairman to coordinates with the UPDF and ask for guards from the army if he feels threatened.
The charcoal dealer under their umbrella, United charcoals vendors association this month dragged the Chairman to Gulu High Court demanding for a compensation of 64.5 million shillings.
