Chua West Member of Parliament (MP) Polly Phillip Okin Ojara has married the daughter of Uganda Peoples Forces (UPDF) Chief of Logistics, Brig Charles Otema Awany.
Mr. Okin, commonly known as PP among his friends, a first time MP in the 10th parliament, married Juliet Aparo last week in a traditional ceremony at Brig Otema’s home splendid home in Tangi village, Purongo Sub County in Nwoya district.
Acholi Times understands that Okin paid 30 million shillings and 15 cattle for the hands of Aparo who reportedly is an employee of Lao limited, a company owned by her father which also owns the sprawling Acholi Inn hotel in Gulu town.
Aparo whose father is a renowned polygamist will be Okin’s second wife, sources told Acholi Times.
A source who attended the wedding said Brig Otema joked that he was already ”in talks” with Okin who stood on an Independent ticket to switch to the ruling National Resistance Movement(NRM).
Okin was originally meant to stand as a candidate on the Forum for Democratic Change(FDC) party but ended up standing as an Independent after confusion in FDC Kitgum branch led to the ”nomination” of two FDC candidates for the Chua West parliamentary seat.
Although barred by the law from engaging in partisan politics, Brig Otema is a key behind- the-scenes player for the NRM during electioneering. His Acholi Inn hotel witnesses a beehive of NRM party activities and effectively becomes the tactical and operational headquarters of the ruling party in Gulu and beyond.
Otema is also known to have deep pockets which, it is said, he used to bankroll the campaign of NRM candidates in the recent elections including that of Catherine Lamwaka, the Omoro woman Member of Parliament who is his latest partner.

This sounds like a gossip. Could you please tell us if the Tangi Village is the land of Otema or a grabbed land of Ladit Eronayio Oryema? Where is the land of Jo Pa Ojok Awany – are they in Tangi?
This man is probably going to leave the worst stench that will follow the Awany name for generations. Acholi people have very, very long memories. We know that Acholi people have clan land areas properly demarcated and as soon as the local land boards and traditional chiefs get their acts together, those decorated land raiders of clan lands will be publicly named and ashamed!! You watch how the late Col. Ochora’s lands will revert to the rightful clans shortly. I will not be sorry for his refugee friend from Agago draught ravaged land, when he is sent packing from the vast acreage on the Nile.
