One person was knocked dead in a hit and run accident by unidentified vehicle on Saturday night along the Gulu Nimule road.
The accident happened at 9:30 pm near Gulu Primary School. The vehicle is suspected to have been heading to South Sudan.
The deceased was identified as Celestino Lanek, 56, a resident of Custom Corner in Bardege Division in Gulu Municipality.
According to eye witnesses, the deceased was knocked and died instantly and the vehicle drove off before they could register its number plate.
Felix Oyet, a resident of the area where the accident happened blamed it on careless road use both by the deceased and the driver, saying the deceased who was drank was walking right in the middle of the road and the driver was also over speeding that he couldn’t control the vehicle.
Patrick Oola Lumumba, the chairman LC3 of Bardege division who was among the first people to arrive at the scene of the accident called for more humps to be put on the road.
“More humps and prior warnings must be put along the highway and speed limits installed because population along the highway is so high”, said Mr Oola.
In September, a 20 year old student of St. Mary’s College, Lacor was ran over and killed by an anonymous speeding vehicle heading to South Sudan. The school is located along the Gulu- Nimule road.
