Opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye on Saturday told Gulu residents that President Museveni is partially sitting on the presidential chair because he stole the February elections.
The Opposition leader promised to kick Museveni off the presidency.
President Museveni was declared winner of the February presidential elections by the Electoral Commission (EC).
Museveni’s election was challenged by former presidential candidate and former Premier Amama Mbabazi. But the Supreme Court upheld the elections.
Besigye was addressing a crowd at Gulu main market on his way to Omoro district to campaign for candidates of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).
Prossy Alanyo is contesting for Omoro district woman Member of Parliament while Simon Toolit Akecha is hoping to be the first Chairman of the newly created Omoro district.
Besigye said Museveni is scared because the whole world knows that he (Museveni) stole the votes for the 2016 presidential elections to assume office.
Besigye repeated his earlier claims that he won the election with 62% but Museveni ‘‘forced’’ his way on the presidency.
Besigye told a cheering crowd that his recent arrest by police was due to fear that he (Besigye) will rally the masses to remove Museveni from power.
The former FDC presidential candidate said he will fight against president Museveni until he removes him from power.
Besigye applauded the people of Gulu district for voting for him and the FDC party in the 2016 general elections.
He asked residents of Omoro to vote for FDC candidates vying for different positions in the district.
President Museveni was in Omoro to campaign for NRM candidates in the district. Museveni said the opposition is made up of people who are not good leaders—people he said are anti- development.
Museveni said he had liberated Uganda from war, improved infrastructure and is promoting household wealth creation.
Elections in Omoro district for the LC5 Chair and Woman member of parliament will be held on August 29.
