Electoral Commission (EC) has finally nominated Simon Toolit Akecha for the Omoro District LCV Chairperson’s race after his first attempt at nomination was rejected on Thursday evening.
Denis Ebong, the EC District Returning officer for Omoro District had on Thursday ordered Toolit to swear an affidavit in court before he could accept to nominate him (Toolit).
Ebong rejected Toolit’s nomination on grounds that he (Toolit) had different names in academic transcripts presented before the EC.
Ebong explained that Toolit’s Primary Leaving Examination (PLE), Ordinary Level (O- Level) and degree certificates had discrepancies in names. In his PLE and O-Level Toolit used the name ‘‘Simon Toolit Akecha’’ while in his A-level he used the name ‘‘Simon Toolit A.’’
According to Ebong, the difference in name was suspicious. He advised Toolit to go to court and swear an affidavit if he is to be nominated before the exercise ends today, Friday.
Toolit complied and he was successfully nominated on Friday at 12:50PM as the candidate for the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).
A visibly happy Toolit said after nomination that he does no suspect any foul play in his initial nomination rejection.
He, however, said he had before used the same papers for nomination on three occasions.
Toolit, the former Omoro County MP lost twice to Jacob Oulanyah, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament in the Omoro County parliamentary elections.
According EC roadmap, campaign will kick off on August 1, and it will end on August 25.
Elections are set for August 29.
Omoro split from Gulu after the 9th Parliament elevated and granted it a full district status.
