Aswa Region Police are accusing Toolit Akecha Simon, a former contestant for the Omoro parliamentary seat of frustrating investigations into his disappearance two weeks ago.
On the night of 25 May at around 3:00am it is alleged that unknown armed people abducted Toolit from his home in African Quarters in Pece Division, Gulu town and took him to an unknown destination.
Toolit contested for the Omoro parliamentary seat and lost to Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah. He subsequently challenged Oulanyah’s re-election in the high court in Gulu. Court will make a ruling on the petition tomorrow.
The whereabouts of Toolit was unknown for three days after his alleged abduction. He claims he was bundled into a car by two armed men who kept him at an unknown garage in Kamyokya in Kampala.
Toolit reported a case of his abduction at Kiira road police station.
But the Aswa region police is now accusing Toolit of frustrating investigations into his alleged abduction.
Okema Patrick Jimmy, the Aswa region Police spokesperson told Acholi Times today that Simon Toolit Akecha reported a case to Kiira Police station in Kampala on the May 28 claiming he had been dumped around Kamwokya by his abductors. He recorded a statement and a case of abduction was also registered under SD 03/28/5/16.
However police in Kiira road advised Toolit to report the case in Gulu. But since then, according to Aswa police spokesman Jimmy Okema, Toolit has not recorded a case with the police in Gulu.
Toolit told Acholi Times today at an interview at his home in Pece division where his alleged abduction took place that he was still traumatized after being held for three days in a garage feeding on only biscuits and sodas.
Toolit denied allegations that he abducted himself claiming the reason he was ‘‘abducted’’ was because he took Oulanyah to court. He said the ‘‘gunmen’’ who abducted him kept saying he should drop the court case against Oulanyah.
Oulanyah distanced himself from Toolit’s abduction saying instead that Toolit abducted himself to soil his (Oulanyah’s) reputation.
