In just five months, police has recorded 77 cases of murder in Acholi sub region alone.
The cases were recorded in the districts of Gulu, Amuru, Nwoya, Pader, Kitgum, Agago and Lamwo.
Gulu recorded the highest number of 17 and followed by Kitgum with 16.
Meanwhile Lamwo recorded 13, Nwoya 11, Amuru 8 and Pader with the least recorded, 4.
Police says majority of the victims were shot and killed by armed criminals.
Other deaths were attributed to mob justice, gender based violence and land conflict.
Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa Region Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), told reporters on Tuesday that the latest victim was 29-year-old Evelyne Alok, a resident of Tudi village, Pamyel parish in Lamwo district.
Okema says Alok was shot and killed by unknown gunmen on the night of May 29, this year at around 8 pm from her home.
Her ex-lover identified as Simon Oryem has been arrested in connection with the gruesome act.
Okema explained that Oryem was arrested following a report that on numerous occasions, he (Oryem) had threatening the deceased.
According to Okema, Alok was getting married in two days’ time before she was gunned down.
Okema said it is suspected that Oryem was not happy with Alok getting married to another man after they separated in April last year.
The suspect is being held at Lamwo Police Station for questioning as investigation into the matter continues.
After the cessation of hostilities following over two decades of violence led by Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), Police in Acholi sub region have battling with increasing cases of murder, mob justice, land conflict and gender based violence.
Psychiatrists attribute the current violence being experienced in the sub region to post war traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as a result of the war.
