The army has appealed to the public for information on the attackers of Opit army detach in Gulu district.
‘‘We are in Opit looking for clues to help us in arresting the fugitives,’’ said Lt Ahmed Hassan Kato, the 4th Division spokesperson in a phone interview today with Acholi Times.
‘‘The fugitives are still at large, and it is not only the responsibility of the UPDF to identify them. The public too should and report to us,’’ Lt Kato added.
On Friday last week, unknown armed people attacked Opit army detach in Opit trading centre in Omoro country, killing a soldier and taking away some guns. Initially Lt Kato said the army had lost eight guns to the attackers, but his boss, the 4th Division Commander, Brigadier Kayanja Muhanga said three guns had been taken away by the armed men.
‘‘The manainchi struggled for the peace that they are currently enjoying. They should let no one spoil it,’’ said the army publicist.
The 4th Division army spokesman denied rumours that the attack was carried out by a new rebel group.
He promised that the army will leave no stone unturned in its investigation to find out who were behind the attacks in Opit.
Northern Uganda is still recovering from two decades of a traumatic war that left people displaced, disrupting livelihoods and destroying infrastructure.

Stop harassing the Acholi people who have had to suffer humiliating crimes in the hands of the genocidal Museveni army. The fact is that the whole Opit incident is a government orchestration meant to distract and implicate.
