The long awaited Nwoya district electrification project has finally kicked off with the survey of the area where the poles will be placed.
The three months project which is to be executed by Harso Engineer Company limited with funding from the World Bank is expected to end by July 2016.
Achilles Balikajire, the power line surveyor said Amuru, Anaka town council and Olwiyo trading centre will be connected first.
Balikajire said the survey will not take more than a month unless if it faces interference from bad weather and obstacles from the land owners where the power line will pass.
When contacted, Nwoya district chairman Patrick Okello Oryema said electricity will greatly boost business in the district by cutting operational costs. Businesses in Nwoya currently run on generators.
“Nwoya district missed a number of potentials businesses because of the absence of electricity and I want to appeal to the community on whose land the poles will be placed to corporate with the project,’’ Oryema said.
Oryema explained that Anaka town council and Olwiyo trading centers will be connected first with the others coming later.
President Museveni in December 2015 promised Nwoya electricity and factories which he said will benefit locals.
