Lamwo Grade two Magistrates, Mr Richard Oluge has been fired by the Judicial Service Commission over corruption tendencies, Acholi Times has learnt.
Mr Oluge is among the four judicial officials in the country who were fired this week after the judicial body carried out investigations that proved they were engaged in corruption and unethical conducts.
Other magistrates fired include John Agaba, the Chief Magistrate of Moroto Court and Herbert Birungi from Nebbi Court.
The former Magistrate was arrested by a team from Inspector General of Government (IGG) and Police on Tuesday afternoon in Kitgum district after receiving bribes of Shs300,000 from a suspect.
The magistrate was, however, fired for earlier complaints rather than for his arrest this week after receiving money from a suspect.
Mr Oluge was detained at Gulu Central Police station briefly before he was whisked by IGG to the Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala where he is expected to answer charges of corruption contrary to section 11 of the Anti-corruption act 2009.
Lamwo LCV Chairperson, Mr Mathew Akiya confirmed to Acholi Times that Mr Omuge had been sacked.
“We are happy that justice has taken its course on the magistrate. We are however now appealing to the Judicial service Commission to quickly make a replacement for magistrate so that we don’t have judicial delays in the district,” Mr Akiya said on today.
Akiya who is also a member of the District Court Committee noted that his office had received several corruption related accusations against the former magistrate.
