NRM leaning independent candidates in Nwoya district who lost in the party’s primary elections have vowed to support Museveni in the 2016 elections.
Tony Awany, one of those who lost in the NRM primaries and is now contesting as an independent candidate for the Nwoya county seat said he will not go against the party and president Museveni.
‘‘If president Museveni the party Chairman and some of his friends went to the bush in 1980 because of vote rigging then why not Mwaka and Tony Awany?’’ Awany said on Monday while addressing residents of Koch Goro village in Ongako Sub County. Awany was alluding to the alleged vote rigging in the NRM party primaries which he said is why he and others in the NRM have ‘‘rebelled’’ and stood as independents.
‘‘We will go in the bush[run as independents] for only 3 months and when we bring change in Nwoya district we shall return back[ to NRM] .’’ Awany added.
George William Mwaka another candidate who lost in the NRM primaries and is now running as an independent candidate for the Nwoya parliamentary seat also said he is still an NRM supporter and a supporter of president Museveni.
‘’ I lost in the primary election because of vote rigging. At every polling station I was performing well but all of a sudden things turned upside down. I am contesting as an independent but will support the NRM party,’’ said Mwaka in a separate interviews.
Concy Ajok, another loser in the NRM primaries who is now standing as an independent candidate for the women councilor Koch lii says will not defy the party because she has only ‘‘temporarily withdrawn’’ from the NRM to stand as an independent but remains a supporter of the party.
Nwoya district NRM mobilizer, Ojok Mucele said two NRM offices have been opened in Nwoya from the fallout that came as a result of the NRM primaries. Ojok said he and other party leaders are working to unite the two different offices.
