A total of 60 government iron sheets and 35 hoes stolen from Amuru District have been recovered from a Gate Way Bus registration number UAX- 262T headed for Busia district in Eastern Uganda.
Captain Peny Wii of the Special Duty attached to the Office of the President said that they intercepted the iron sheets on Sunday at around 10:00 Pm.
According to Peny-wii, the stolen iron sheets and hoes were in possession of the Amuru District Police Commander (DPC), Mr Abbey Ngako.
Sources also told Acholi Times that the iron sheets and hoes were brought to Gulu main bus park by a white Diana truck registration number UAX-745J.
The Aswa Regional Police Commander, Ms Wilson Kwanya confirmed the incident and said police were still investigating whether the iron sheets were given to the DPC by the Amuru district authorities or it was a case of theft.
He says the case was registered under Case No GEF: 18/2015 at the Gulu Aswa Regional police headquarters.
“Yes, am aware of the matter but the accused has told us that he was given the iron sheet by the District authorities and we will have to verify the claim,” the RPC told Acholi Times.
But the Amuru district LCV chairman, Mr Anthony Louise Omach Atube said the iron sheets which were donated by the office of the prime minister to community schools were taken to Amuru Police Station for safe custody before they went missing.
“There is already a problem and the law will take its course with immediate effect, “Omach said.
When contacted, the DPC Amuru was not picking his phone.
