Northern Uganda Diocese Bishop, Rt Rev Johnson Gakumba has urged Ugandans to elect leaders who are not greedy but rather those who will help in bringing development and unity to the country.
Bishop Gakumba while making a sermon during a thanks giving prayer organized for the speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), Mr Daniel Fred Kidega, at Kaunda grounds in Gulu town on last week said the country is yearning for positive leaders.
“Let us elect leaders who are not greedy, immoral or indecent. We should vote leaders who are going to unite this country, bring development and make it a better place to live in” said Bishop Gakumba.
He noted that leaders who are servants of the lord and those who attribute their works to God greatly contribute to the growth of the country, citing a scripture from the book of Colossians 3:21-17.
“As we cast the votes, God will choose leaders and guide them on how to lead the people for the good of the country,” says Bishop Gakumba.
Democratic Party President, Mr Norbert Mao, while speaking on behalf of the family members of EALA speaker Kidega, castigated leadership in the country arguing that majority of them lack integrity.
“There are so many leaders in the country who own money, and many other resources, but they lack the focus of what is right and convenient for the nation. They practice their self-interest,” says Mr Mao.
Mr Mao who is intending to vie for next year’s Presidential election under the DP ticket noted that integrity in leadership is very key to the success of a nation and democratic rule arguing that without it, a nation tumbles.
