Local artists in Northern Uganda have come out to set tough conditions on the use of their music ahead of 2016 elections.
The artists numbering over 50 who gathered on Wednesday at the Link garden in Pece division, Gulu town said that they are tired of organizations and Politicians using their music for free during campaign period.
Rasta Bomsic Otim, the interim chairperson of the artist’s association said that in many cases politicians use their songs for campaign and don’t pay them.
He however said that effective August 26, 2015, they will take legal action against politicians who go against their resolution to have them pay for their music.
Bosmic also said that no senior artist will perform below Shs1,000,000 and that all upcoming artists will perform at a cost of not less than Shs500,000.
This he says is aimed at ensuring that local artists reap from their sweat.
“I have learnt that some Politicians have already gotten billions from state house using our music but want to pay us peanuts when campaign begins,” Bosmic said.
Mr Odong Romeo, a gospel artist told the meeting that the unity on the same problem should start with orientation especially to beginners in the industry.
Mr Justine Obol simple man however said artists should be allowed to join the association at will but members disagreed saying all musicians should subscribe and whoever fails be banned.
Mr Okot Juma, a presenter at Mega FM, a local radio broadcasting in Northern Uganda who is also a music promoter offered to give the musician Shs200,000 to help them open a bank account in a bid to make them more organized.

Dont let otim, just play with your mind. You cant dictate over others. is he the law of thios country?
Santos I don’t think you are an artist. If you are, then you are those of a wonabe with no talent.
Honestly Otim is trying to make the local artist to earn peanut from the multi millionaires politicians who after election would not want to know you. First of all how much is the studio fee for recording? How much is the to and fro transport fare? How much is the stage attires and cleaning after? These exclude labour, transport, and welfare of an individual artist going to perform out there. And Otim is asking for 1m for veteran and .5m for aspirants I think it’s a right decision for campaign season. What is your problem with Otim’s idea? Why cant you come up with your own ideas instead of busting out with kintergarten English.
