    Northern Uganda Hip-hop star Lumix’s candles burns out

    458762_317798544947694_171284111_oHip hop fans and Musicians in Northern Uganda last week mourned the demise of one of the region’s sensational Hip-Hop rapper, Lumumba Patrick AKA Lumix Da Don.
    Lumix, 37, of the ‘try’ fame succumbed to heart failure from Naguru Hospital on Monday afternoon where he was admitted at for the past three weeks.
    According to the deceased’s father Mzee Lyelmoi Odong Ongaba, Lumix’s ill health began a month ago, although most of the family members had not realized earlier about it.
    “At first he (Lumix) was being treated at a nearby clinic at Home in Naguru suburb in Kampala, but later he was transferred to Mulago National federal Hospital but his condition was worsening, and later he was admitted at Naguru Hospital where he breathed his last,”
    Lumix’s musical journey begun at High school where he used to rap under the group Snag and O, although he went solo and commercial in 2005 with his debut album hit ‘Nyeri’ that swept the region by storm.
    His genre of Music at the time was deemed impossible in the once war ravaged Northern Uganda, however he proved many wrong by staying on the top of the Hip-Hop chat for a decade.
    With several Hip Hop albums he released, Lumix was a true darling to many youth and elderly person due to his unique blending of songs both in English and the local dialect (Acholi).

     

    Mr Ronald Ochan, Lumix’s brother told Acholi Times in an interview that Hip hop, was everything to Lumix adding that despite the less earning in the industry in the region, he remained passionate about it for a decade.
    “He (Lumix) liked Hip-Hop, he introduced hip hop in the region at a time many feared venturing in it. it was Hip Hop my brother loved and no one at home objected to it,” says Mr Ochan.
    He adds, “His death is a big blow to the Hip-hop fraternity and those who liked urban music from the local artists in the region,”
    DN Kelly, a Hip-hop artist in Gulu Municipality who shared a great time of work with Lumix said the deceased was more than a brother to him during their good days adding his death robbed him of a friend.
    Mr Lumix is famous in the region especially in Gulu town for his down to earth simple life style.
    His latest hit ‘Try’ just released a couple of months back is currently topping chats on lost of the airwaves and clubs within Northern Uganda.
    The deceased was laid to rest at their home in Laroo Divison on Thursday division Gulu Municipality on Thursday.

    Lumix’s Biography
    Lumix was born on 31st February 1978, He attended his primary education at Ntinda Primary schools were he finished in 1992; he later joined Jinja College and finished in 1996 his O’level education.
    In 1997-1998, he attended Premier High school for his A’level education and later joined Makerere University in 1999 where he pursued a Bachelor Degrees in Social Science.
    Lumix prior to his death owned Recording studio Valley Curve Records in Ntinda Kampala where he was also the CEO, producer and song writer.
    He won the 2011 Pearl of Africa’s Northern Artist of the year prestigious accolade.
    Lumix worked closely with some of the country’s best hip-hop stars like Lyrical G and GNL Zamba
