Mr Mike Nyeko Ocula, the former Member of Parliament for Kilak County in Amuru district has hit back at those who have criticized his decision to abandon his former party the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) to join the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Mr Ocula who won on the FDC ticket in 2006, lost in 2011 to Mr Gilbert Olanya, the current area MP who is also FDC but contested as an independent candidate.
Ocula says his recent defection is purely political and those who think he has crossed for survival are wrong.
The former legislator for Amuru says, “NRM will never solve my problems and money cannot make me leave my former party.”
He called those in opposition as friends and also questioned individuals who think he is desperate, “How many people have defected to NRM party and are now rich after they receive cash from the party.”
Mr Ocula said he has he own way of solving his personal problems and accused opposition of hinging their politics on intrigue.
“Some of them do not even greet each other by a simple fact that they belong to different political parties,” He said.
Mr Ocula vowed to win the hearts of people in Acholi sub region and campaign for President Yoweri Museveni in the 2016 general elections.
But Amuru FDC chairman for Amuru District, Mr Michael Lakony says, “Mr Ocula was no longer an active member of the opposition. He has been irrelevant in the political landscape of Amuru.”
Lakony adds that Ocula’s defection was a relief and wished him the best.
MP Reagan Okumu, who is also a senior member of the FDC party, alleged that a section of their party members have become moles.

Mr. Ocula, if you are going to win the hearts of Acholi people for President Museveni, you have to know that honesty is the best characteristic to have with the people. Of course, it is you absolute right to belong to any party you wish to be in. However, when you claim that your crossing to NRM is purely political, that it has nothing to do with your survival and that you are going to win the hearts of Acholi people to support the NRM, you declared yourself as a prime target for public assessment. Do you think that claiming that what you have done is purely political will convince people that you are not working for your survival? What then is your politics for if it is not for securing your interest? Those who accused you of crossing because you want to secure something for survival are also making purely political assessment of you. It will be one of the things they will look at before they decide whether you are politically credible or someone who just changes direction as a flag in the wind. That is also their absolute right to do.
I heard that Ocula was about to die of hunger. He joined nrm to get some food. Survival for the fittest. hahahah!
