A report by the Human Rights Focus, a right based organization in Gulu has released a report showing that land conflicts are moving from family to clans
Acholi sub region Human Rights report 2015 first quarter was done between the months of January to March 2015 and will be launched in Late May.
Mr Francis Odongyoo, the executive Director of Human Rights Focus said that many clans have started claiming tracing their history and going back to land their ancestors moved away from 20 years ago which is now causing a lot of confusion and clan clashes.
He said it has become an issue of the numbers in a clan where a bigger clan with many people feels they should wipe out the clan with few people.
“Land conflicts have moved from family clashes to clan clashes where the bigger clan wants to gang against the weaker clan and take their land, this is unacceptable serious human rights issue in Acholi,” Mr Odongyoo told our reporter in an exclusive interview.
He named the hotspots of clan land clashes as Wol, Parabongo, Kalongo in Agago, Paloga in Lamwo and Idobo in Lalogi sub county Gulu district.
He also said that Domestic violence has taken a new form where resource struggle in the house has become an issue where both the man and the woman secretly steal agricultural items like groundnuts.
He explained that in most cases, a man will secretly sell off farm harvest to go and drink Alcohol while the Women for weekly savings (Bolicup) adding that when they realize the scarcity, then the question of how the harvest disappeared becomes the issues since they were all taking it away secretly.
